8. Can I partake of the Lord’s Supper?
You can partake of the Lord’s Supper if you have been baptized and united in membership with a Bible-believing church. This includes publicly confessing your personal faith in Jesus alone for salvation, and a continuance as a regular member in good standing. If you are unsure, we encourage you to meet with the pastor or elders of the Church before partaking of the Lord’s Supper.
9. How do I become a member?
To help you understand membership, the pastor will meet with you and/or invite you to participate in a class on Christian doctrine. You would then be invited to meet with the elders of the church to give your testimony and affirm your belief in the Christian faith.
On the day you are received as a communicant member, you will be asked to publicly make these five vows to the Triune God as your rudimentary creed as a disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ.
- Do you believe the Bible, consisting of the Old and New Testaments, to be the Word of God, and its doctrine of salvation by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, to be the perfect and only true doctrine of salvation?
- Do you believe in one living and true God, in whom eternally there are three distinct persons – God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit – who are the same in being and equal in power and glory, and that Jesus Christ is God the Son, come in the flesh?
- Do you confess that because of your sinfulness you humble yourself before God, and that you trust for salvation not in yourself but in Jesus Christ alone?
- Do you acknowledge Jesus Christ as your sovereign Lord and do you promise, in reliance on the grace of God, to serve him with all that is in you, to forsake the world, to put to death your old sinful nature, and to lead a godly life?
- Do you agree to submit in the Lord to the government of this church and, in case you should be found delinquent in doctrine or life, to heed its discipline?
May the Lord richly bless you as you consider this important step.
